What Makes Maths Literacy Different

Mathematical Literacy is a practical subject. There are no pure algebra or trigonometry sections — every question is set in a real-life context like household budgets, loans, taxi tariffs, or floor plans. The exam split is Paper 1 (Applications & Calculations) and Paper 2 (Integration & Problem Solving). What trips learners up is not the maths itself but misinterpreting the scenario. Getting comfortable with the vocabulary used in finance, measurement, and data questions is half the battle. Past papers are the best way to see how contexts repeat across years.
